How much do I save vs. Big Box courier companies? With a little bit of extra effort on your side we can anticipate saving of approx $500 over the big box companies that can only offer a door to door service. = Is Ocean Freight cheaper for my shipment of less than 300 lbs /135 Kgs? Although ocean freight may seem like it is a cheaper option in the long run you actually pay more due to the high import or destination fees that the ocean line will charge. You can estimate $300.00 in the local currency just to be able to pick-up your goods. That does not include customs clearance or delivery charges. What is Airport to Airport Service? We offer an Airport to Airport service. That is the cheapest method for you to move your goods back home. It simply means that we will get your goods from Vancouver airport to the closest international airport to your destination. The prices vary based on the destination. Any major airport in Australia and Auckland, New Zealand the price is $250 for a normal ski bag or snowboard bag. This is good for up to 20 kgs actual or volume weight*. You can average $7 /kg more after that amount. The airplanes only have so much space. With the limited payload their has been an understanding between the airlines and their customer where by the airlines can charge a higher price for bulky freight. You simply multiply the LxWxH in CMs and divide by 6000 and you will have the volume weight. If this weight is greater than the actual weight then that is the weight we base the rate upon. This is very difficult as we don't want you to have to stay home all day to wait for a driver to arrive at your door. We have an added service in which we can have you drop off your goods at one of service providers in your area and they will take the goods to our office at Vancouver airport. What documents do I have to complete? We have the correct documents for you to complete at the time of shipping. We have a simple form and then there is your governments form that may take a little more time. Also, we will need a copy of your passport for security reasons so please bring it with you if you are coming to our office or make a recognizable photo copy when you send the goods. Airfreight service usually takes between 7-9 days to the airport of destination. As a matter of security we hold the goods for 2-3 days in order to give Canada Export customs an opportunity to inspect the goods. How do I pack my personal effects? Luggage, snowboard bags, or boxes that are re-enforced are fine. We do not supply boxes, but any public storage facility has them for sale. Is there additional insurance that I can purchase? The airline automatically insures your goods for $20/kg if they lose your personal effects. Insurance beyond this amount is not available. When are you open? Where are you located? We are open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. You can find us at the Vancouver Airport on the cargo side. Our exact location is 5200 Miller Rd #130 Bay door 37. As you are going towards the airport you will see two blue buildings on the left hand side. We are in the back of the First blue building. The easiest way to find us is to look for the large VTL Express sign in the back of the building and go around that side to the first door you see. We would be pleased to arrange to pick-up up if you have no car and can get yourself to Vancouver Int'l airport. I am flying out on the weekend and only arriving into town on the weekend. Is there anyway that you can still accept and move my personal effects so I won't have to drag them around with me? We can offer an out of office service. As we have to have someone come to the office after-hours to meet with you and arrange the meet there will be an after-hours charge of $50.00. Dangerous goods are such things as spray paint, WD40, Leather protector, even a hair curler can be considered dangerous for an airplane if it uses a butane refill. You must declare anything that is questionable. Security is much more important than saving a couple of dollars in spray paint etc... Are there any other charges that I should worry about? Airfreight would just have one other charge that we have seen and we cannot prepay the charge for you. It is a destination airline terminal fee. It is approx 40-50 in the local currency and basically covers the charge from the actual airplane to warehouse until you arrive to pick-up the goods. Beyond that would be unforeseen charges such as quarantine, duty & taxes. If you declare the value that you believe you resell the goods at on your paperwork then duty & taxes would be very little if any. How long do I have to pick-up my goods at the airport? Normally, you have 2 days after arrival of the goods at the airport. After those two days storage begins at approx $20 per day. Should I put locks on the shipment? We suggest that you do put locks on your bags. If customs wishes to inspect the goods then they have the tools to break the locks. The contents of your bags are not insured with the above airline insurance policy just the weight of the bags should the entire bag go missing. Should goods go missing from the bags Mannix Freight cannot be held responsible? It is important to point out that in the 17 years and 1000's of moves of personal effects from Vancouver airport we have only had one incidence of missing cargo from inside a bag.
